EAST LANSING, Mich. - Learning opportunities abound for students, young
and old alike, during the summer at Michigan State University, where approximately
35,000 individuals will take advantage of a variety of educational, athletic
and entertaining activities.
"We continue to focus on bringing in school groups to acquaint the students
with the many opportunities available on a college campus," said Maria
Giggy, University Housing conference coordinator. "We have more than 225
camps, conferences and seminars this summer, and we're still getting bookings
for summer activities."
The summer agenda includes some unique events as part of a salute to
the 100th anniversary of 4-H, planned during 4-H Exploration Days. There
are a series of programs designed for Michigan's Native American youth,
and the Tekakwitha Conference, for Native American families throughout
the country, will be held on campus.
Boys State, Girls State and Kids Kollege are among programs to provide
leadership experiences; debate institutes, music camps, journalism camps
and educational assistance programs help students hone their skills; and
insect world science camp and honors science camp bring learning to life.
There are a host of conferences for adults as well, bringing Michigan
and international visitors to campus.
Since 1876, MSU has hosted a variety of events to inform, educate and
help young people develop their academic and artistic skills. MSU's University
Housing conference staff assists groups and individuals with their planning
for a variety of events - including weddings, corporate meetings, parent
and student orientation programs, and programs for national and international
visitors.
