WHAT: The results of a cross-national study which looked at the level of preparedness of middle school mathematics teachers will be released. The Mathematics Teaching in the 21st Century (MT21) study compared teacher knowledge, preparation and beliefs in six countries, including the United States, which did not fare as well as U.S. education officials would have preferred. By examining how the six countries (Taiwan, South Korea, Bulgaria, Germany, Mexico and the United States) prepared their middle school mathematics teachers, MT21 studied a group of future teachers who have a central role in the preparation of future generations for an internationally driven and information-based economy. The work was funded by the National Science Foundation.
